RTX 4090 and 4080 GPUs: New Flagship GPUs from NVIDIA

We already know that NVIDIA recently launched its flagship gaming GPUs under the new Ada Lovelace architecture, namely – RTX 4090 and 4080. If you are an avid gamer, you must be aware of the latest game-changing technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR). These technologies have changed how we play games and pushed GPU manufacturers to upgrade their graphics cards. And now let’s talk about another important thing: When should you upgrade your old graphics card? Do the newly launched AMD and NVIDIA GPUs offer better value for money? In this article, we are going to discuss all of these things so that you can make an informed decision before buying a new graphics card.

Is it worth upgrading right now?

Nividia this time claims that their new flagship GPUs are 4x faster than their predecessor. Claiming 4x faster performance isn’t usual while introducing any CPU and GPUs. On to the topic, RTX 4000 series no doubt is a monster although the details in Jensen’s announcement were he did mention 2x rasterization and 4x raytracing performance. The specs back up all these performance claims and compare to last gen flagship Nvidia GPU 3090ti. RTX 4090 has 16384 Cuda cores with boost and base clock speeds of 2.23Ghz and 2.52Ghz respectively, whereas 10752 Cuda cores in RTX 3090ti with base and boost clock speeds of 1.86Ghz and 1.67Ghz. Hence this thing is a grave for 3090ti.

The New RTX 4090 GPU starts at $1599 and in India, its base model is priced at Rs 99,950.

Now if you are planning to upgrade your gaming rig or your workstation after price. The second thing that comes to your mind, is whether this thing is power hungry or power efficient. Many reports all over the internet were claiming that RTX 4090 could draw up to 600 watts. However, Nividia showcased that 4090 will draw the same power as its predecessor even with the massive jumps in the Cuda cores clock speed.

Now for those people who have more than a $1600 budget for their upgrade or building their gaming rig. It is a big question for them about what to choose. RTX 4090 is no doubt insanely powerful and expensive and will be available on the 12th of October. Interesting to see how much time it takes to go out of stock because of crypto miners and global chip shortage.

On the other hand, AMD is likely to announce their flagship GPU on November 3rd which will have the same 24GB GDDR6 memory but other leaks aren’t confirmed yet. There is huge anticipation with AMD to give proper competition and reply to NVIDIA with the new RDNA 4 GPUs. There is a possibility that AMD can deliver better performance at a bit low price. Although things haven’t been confirmed yet we could only say it is on the track record of AMD as they gave competition in the past.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPUs

The Company has announced two different 4080 cards which is now a more questionable side of the announcement. RTX 4080 cards come with 16GB and 12GB of GDDR6 memory starting at $ 1199 and $899 respectively. Now at the strange part, both specs are completely different apart from the different sizes of memory. Even it has 1000 fewer CUDA cores as compared to the RTX 3080. However, the boost and base clock speed of the GPU has increased compared to the 3080 which is 2.61GHz from 1.71GHz. One thing more strange is 16GB variant has less clock speed as compared to the 12GB RTX 4080 Variants. In the announcement, NVIDIA didn’t showcase as many required details about these cards. About the increased bandwidth nor did they share any raytracing performance data.

Both 4080 GPUs with 12 GB and 16GB variants give the same performance. And giving up the $300 difference the RTX 4080 12 GB variant will be better over 16 GB. However, you could save $400 to get RTX 4090 which is a beast instead of going with 4080 with 16 GB.
