The fate of LG Rollable has not yet been decided and may be cancelled even if LG maintains the mobile division

LG surprised the virtual crowd at CES 2021 a few days after bringing in a short demo of the Rollable phone and news of its September launch target. The fate of LG Rollable has not yet been decided and probably be cancelled.

The Korea Herald reports that the detailed launch plans for Rollable have not actually been decided (despite previous reports). LG has issued an ambiguous statement that it is “open to all possibilities.” And for now, the possibilities aren’t very good.

LG’s CEO is considering withdrawing from the mobile business, and negotiations with potential buyers are underway. The mobile sector has been a headache for the company in recent years. While the company as a whole enjoyed the highest profits ever in the holiday quarter, the mobile sector is still in the red.

But even if LG decides to keep making phones, it can still unplug Rollable. The LG Wing may have won the CES Innovation Award, but has reported a financial failure. Less than 100,000 units have been sold since its launch.

This has led some insiders to think that Rollable has been cancelled. It is doubtful that expensive devices will work on the market. And even if it’s above the wings, it’s not enough to carry the entire department.

LG Rollable could still be the company’s hero, but insiders believe that LG will use it as leverage to raise selling prices in the mobile sector. Looks like the fate of LG is still undecided.
